Prof. Hacer Topaktaş Üstüner, TÜBA Young Academy Member and Head of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and Head of the Department of Polish Language and Literature at Istanbul University (IU) Faculty of Letters, was awarded the Order of Merit for Distinguished Service by the Republic of Poland.

Prof. Üstüner, winner of the TÜBA-GEBİP and TÜBA-TESEP Awards, was awarded the Order of Merit for Distinguished Service for her scientific studies and contributions to the cultural relations between Türkiye and Poland.

The presentation ceremony was held with the participation of TÜBA Full Member and IU Rector Prof. Osman Bülent Zülfikar, Consul General of Poland in Istanbul Witold Lesniak and Dean of the Faculty of Letters Prof. Sevtap Kadıoğlu. Prof. Üstüner, who expressed her great honor to be deemed worthy of the award, was presented the decoration by Consul General Lesniak.

The Academy's 61st General Assembly and General Assembly Conference was held on Saturday, December 21 at The Ankara Hotel with the participation of TÜBA members, rectors and heads of institutions.

TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) has awarded the “TÜBİTAK Science, Special, Service, and Encouragement Awards” in 2024 to 21 scientists in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research and development in scientific and technological fields, and their role in training and advancing researchers. Of these, a total of 17 scientists, including TÜBA and TÜBA-GEBİP Members, were honored.

The “TÜBA and TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony”, organized jointly by TÜBA and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) under the auspices of the Presidency, was hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker, TÜBİTAK President Prof. Orhan Aydın, rectors from different universities, award-winning academics and their families attended the ceremony held at Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Under the auspices of the Presidency, “TÜBA Awards” consisting of TÜBA International Academy Awards, TÜBA-GEBİP Award (Outstanding Young Scientist Awards) and TÜBA-TESEP Award (Scientific Authored Book Awards) have found their owners. All awards will be presented by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Science Awards Ceremony to be held at the Presidential Complex on December 18, 2024.
