TÜBA Young Academy Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Gheorghe Appointed Editor at International Security

Asst. Prof. Dr. Eliza Gheorghe, a member of the TÜBA Young Academy and faculty member in the Department of International Relations at Bilkent University, has been appointed associate editor of International Security, one of the world’s leading journals in the field.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Gheorghe said that taking on the role of associate editor for this prominent publication is an exciting opportunity for the academic community in Türkiye. She noted that the research community here, supported by institutions like TÜBA, continues to make important contributions to the field of international and nuclear security. Through this editorial position, the aim is not only to advance academic scholarship but also to inspire and mentor the next generation of researchers in Türkiye, fostering further growth in these critical areas. She added that she aims to contribute not only to the academic literature in international and nuclear security but also to inspire young researchers in Türkiye. She also shared that her first book, "Market of Doom: Proliferation and the Logic of Nuclear Trade", will soon be published by Cornell University Press.

International Security ranks first in the field of international relations according to the 2024 impact factor rankings. The journal is published by the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School and printed by MIT Press.

Who is Asst. Prof. Dr. Eliza Gheorghe?
Asst. Prof. Dr. Eliza Gheorghe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at Bilkent University and a Research Associate at the ROCCA Lab at Vanderbilt University. She received her Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Oxford and holds an M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University.

Her research interests include nuclear proliferation and market dynamics, nuclear alliances and extended deterrence, as well as the effectiveness of the global nonproliferation regime. Her scholarly work has appeared in leading academic journals such as International Security and the Journal of Politics. She is also the author of Market of Doom: Proliferation and the Logic of Nuclear Trade, forthcoming from Cornell University Press.

In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was awarded the Outstanding Young Scientist Prize by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2020.
