Applications for 2024 International TÜBA Academy Prizes Extended

The Nominations for the International TÜBA Academy Prizes for 2024 continues, and applications have been extended until May 31, 2024.

TÜBA Academy Prizes are given to those scientists with original, leading and path-breaking works in their fields. Nominations are made by TÜBA members, science academies and inter-academy organizations and other science institutions which are related with TÜBA. TÜBA Academy Prizes are annually awarded to the nominated scientists in one of the following categories of sciences namely; Basic and Engineering Sciences, Health and Life Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities. One prize is awarded in each category and every year one of the prizes is awarded to scientists related with Türkiye or Turkish issues, meaning those who work in Türkiye and/or study Turkish. Academy Prize in Social Sciences and Humanities is designated as the Türkiye related (researches and studies) prize for this year. TÜBA Academy Prizes are given to those scientists with original, leading and path-breaking works in their fields. The nominees are evaluated by a Prize Committee in each category. The Committees, composed of TÜBA members and renowned scientists, examine the works of the candidates via a rigorous process involving peer-review and identify the possible prize laureates. The laureates are announced by the Academy Council of TÜBA.

Members of TÜBA and those who take part in the evaluation process of the prizes cannot be nominated. The nominees shouldn’t have received any another science award from public institutions and organizations in Türkiye for last three years.

The Academy Prizes, consisting of the Academy Prize Medal and Certificate, and a monetary prize determined by the Academy Council each year, will be presented to the laureates at a ceremony held at the Presidential Complex under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.

President of TÜBA Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, speaking about TÜBA International Academy Prizes, reminded that these prizes were initiated in 2015. He emphasized that the TÜBA award program has been carried out under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye since the very beginning.  Underlining that the programs was initiated to contribute to the representation and recognition of the Turkish scientific community in the international arena by encouraging and rewarding scientists whose work and contributions to science are appreciated all over the world, President Şeker said: "The International TÜBA Academy Prizes, established by TÜBA within the scope of its mission to encourage and appreciate scientists, is one of the prominent programs of our Academy. I can say that we are very pleased with the interest in the TÜBA International Academy prizes, whose application and evaluation processes are carried out with great care and which have gained great prestige in a short time. The TÜBA Academy Prizes, which consist of three categories: Social Sciences and Humanities, Health and Life Sciences, and Science and Engineering Sciences, are presented to scientists with original, pioneering and groundbreaking studies in the relevant field by our Türkiye's President at a ceremony held in the Presidential Complex every year. Each year, one of the prizes is alternately given to scientists who are citizens of the Republic of Türkiye or who have studies related to Türkiye among the three categories. In this way, the Türkiye-related award continues alternately among three categories." He added that the Türkiye-related award will be presented in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities for the year 2024.
