TÜBA & TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research Fellowship Program
TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Uzbekistan Aziz Sancar Research fellowship Program aims to promote scientific and technological cooperation between Türkiye and Uzbekistan during and after doctoral studies in accordance with the protocol signed between TÜBA Presidency and Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) on 27.12.2022. Applications will start on June 12, 2023 and end on July 31, 2023.
The program includes monthly fellowship and travel expenses support for young researchers for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 36 months.
1. Application Requirements
a) Uzbek citizenship with permanent residence in Uzbekistan (dual citizenship holders, those who have renounced their Turkish citizenship for any reason cannot apply),
b) Not having any visa for temporary or permanent residence in another country,
c) Not currently residing in Türkiye,
d) A letter of reference from public institutions of the Uzbek Government, Universities of Uzbekistan or the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan,
e) Language certificate showing academic study proficiency in Turkish or English or success in the qualification interview to be conducted by TÜBA-TÜBİTAK,
f) Applicants must have received an invitation from a state university or public institutions research centers in Türkiye*,
For PhD Applicants:
As of the application deadline, to be enrolled in a doctoral program in one of the fields specified in this application text in one of the higher education institutions of Uzbekistan and to have passed the doctoral proficiency exam / at the thesis stage,
Not to be over 35 years of age as of 31 December of the year of application,
For Postdoctoral Researchers:
To have a Ph.D. degree in one of the fields specified in this application text,
Not being over 45 years of age as of December 31st of the application year,
Language certificate showing academic study proficiency in Turkish or English or success in the qualification interview to be conducted by TÜBA-TÜBİTAK,
* The authority to determine the institution where the fellowship recipients will conduct their research and the scientific advisor, who will supervise their research, belongs to the TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Aziz Sancar Fellowship Selection Committee, which will be established specifically for this fellowship program.
2. Fields that can apply:
a) Basic Sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics)
b) Engineering Sciences
c) Astronomy, Earth and Space Sciences
d) Information Technology,
e) Agricultural Sciences (Agriculture, Food, Livestock, Veterinary Medicine),
f) Social Sciences (International Relations, Political History, Educational Sciences)
3. Application Documents
The following documents must be uploaded to the application system during the application.
a) Photocopy of the identity section of the passport
b) Research proposal form prepared in the format specified by TÜBİTAK,
c) Letter of reference from public institutions of the Uzbek Government, Universities of Uzbekistan or Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan**,
For Ph.D. Researchers: A certificate of registration and non-objection taken within the last three months before the application date and stating that the candidate is registered as a doctoral student abroad and has passed the doctoral qualifying exam / has started doctoral thesis studies,
For Postdoctoral Researchers: Certified photocopy of the doctoral diploma, temporary graduation certificate if the diploma is not ready, or an official letter from the university of graduation,
**Reference letters should be sent directly to TÜBA via azizsancarbursu@tuba.gov.tr by official authorities.
4. Application Method
a) The information of the researchers and their supervisor(s) in the Researcher Information System (ARBIS) must be up-to-date before the online application.
b) Applications are made online via the TÜBİTAK Management Information System (TYBS) address within the dates announced in the call announcement.
c) Documents uploaded to the application system must be in Turkish or English. Certified Turkish or English translations of documents prepared in other languages must be uploaded.
d) It is sufficient to upload the documents to the system at the application stage, they do not need to be delivered to BİDEB by mail.
e) Withdrawal within the application period can be made by removing the approval through the system. After the end of the application period, a signed petition stating the year and period of application must be sent to BİDEB address for withdrawal during the evaluation phase. After the petition reaches BİDEB, the update process is carried out.
5. Fellowship Initiation and Required Documents
In order for the fellowship to be initiated;
a) An invitation letter from the highest authority of the institution where the research will be conducted,
b) A letter of commitment signed by the scholar and his/her academic advisor in Türkiye,
c) If required by the research, the approval document obtained from the Ethics Committee of the institution/organization where the research will be conducted, if any, or from any relevant Ethics Committee if there is no Ethics Committee, must be delivered to BİDEB by mail.
d) Following the submission of the aforementioned documents to BİDEB, the fellowship payments for the recipient will commence as of the research start date declared in the commitment letter. The research start date should be the first day of the month in which the research will be started.
e) Fellowships are paid to the bank accounts opened in Turkish lira (TL) in the banks located in Türkiye, as declared by the fellowship recipients in the commitment letter, within the first 10 days of the month following the relevant month.
f) The costs of the researcher's travel to and return from Türkiye are covered by TÜBA. Candidates who are entitled to be supported for this should contact TÜBA at azizsancarbursu@tuba.gov.tr for ticketing procedures.
