TÜBA & TÜBİTAK Summer School on Energy for the New Türkiye
The “TÜBA-TÜBİTAK Alternative Energy Sources and the Future of Energy Summer School” will be held at Mersin University from July 20 to 25, 2025.
Within the framework of addressing current issues, providing science-based guidance and consulting services, and informing policymakers and society, the summer school program prepared by TÜBA in collaboration with TÜBİTAK emphasizes the critical importance of human resource training, R&D, innovation, and technology development. The event will address topics such as renewable energy, energy policies, hydrogen and other alternative fuels, climate change, the environmental impacts of energy systems, and artificial intelligence applications. The summer school, which brings together TÜBA members, expert faculty members, and stakeholders to focus on human resource education in these areas, will present long-term solution proposals. Contributions will be made to effectively address current issues. Fifty-four qualified students from 24 different universities who are pursuing or have completed their doctorates in the fields of renewable energy sources, alternative fuels, nuclear energy, hydrogen energy, decarbonization, and energy management within the past three years will receive training.
Renewable energy and hydrogen are gaining priority
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker emphasized that TÜBA attaches great importance to its summer schools. Drawing attention to the role of alternative energy sources in shaping the future, he said that Türkiye's dependence on foreign fossil fuels causes problems in terms of the economy and the environment. "The issue of energy and its demand, which is at the top of the global agenda, is also a very important topic for us. In the current environment where the entire world is seeking alternative energy sources, renewable energy sources and hydrogen as an alternative fuel are gaining prominence. Türkiye is surrounded by seas on three sides and is rich in wind and solar energy as well as geothermal energy. Its strategically advantageous location and high potential for renewable energy and hydrogen production offer great opportunities for our development by reducing our dependence on foreign energy. Therefore, changes in the global energy landscape bring significant advantages for Türkiye. It is very important for us to focus on key areas such as human resource training, research, development, innovation, and technology development. Ultimately, the economic gains that will be achieved by our country, which is dependent on foreign energy, becoming an energy-exporting country will enable Türkiye to develop rapidly.
