TÜBA Vice President Prof. Dr. A. Nuri Yurdusev Elected as Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science

The elections of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), which began on 4 July 2016, were completed on 30 October 2016. TUBA member and vice president Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev was elected as a Fellow of the Academy.

Yurdusev, who is a professor of International Relations at the Middle East Technical University and an expert on the theory and history of international relations, has been the first TUBA member elected to the WAAS. Speaking on his election as a Fellow of the WAAS, Professor Yurdusev said that he was honoured and humbled to be part of an academy that grew upon the efforts of prominent post-war scientists including Albert Einstein and whose founding members included mathematician-philosopher Earl Bertrand Russell and the historian of science and civilisation Joseph Needham.

The World Academy of Art and Science is an international non-governmental scientific organization, a world network of more than 700 individual fellows from more than 80 countries. Fellows are elected for distinguished accomplishments in the sciences, arts and the humanities with an inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach with an outstanding record of public service and are committed to addressing the pressing social problems confronting humanity today. The Academy strives to promote the growth of knowledge, enhance public awareness of the social consequences and policy implications of that growth, and provide "leadership in thought that leads to action". The spirit of the academy can be expressed in the words of Albert Einstein "The creations of our mind shall be a blessing and not a curse to mankind".
