TÜBA Member Prof. Dr. Kadir Mutlu Hayran on the “ISOPT Advisory Board”

Prof. Dr. Mutlu Hayran, a Full Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), Director of the Cancer Institute at Hacettepe University, and Chair of the Department of Preventive Oncology, has been accepted as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Society of Oncology Prevention and Treatment (ISOPT), an international non-governmental organization headquartered in Hong Kong.

Prof. Dr. Hayran’s membership in ISOPT, which comprises over 20 countries and 45 experts, is viewed as a development aimed at further contributing to the global representation of Türkiye's scientific expertise in the field of cancer prevention and control.

Prof. Dr. Hayran stated, “I accepted this invitation with the goal of contributing to the preparation of open-access scientific reports, particularly regarding cancer prevention; and of reflecting my experience in the fields of cancer epidemiology, health policies, and health systems into the organization’s scientific guidance processes.” He expressed his commitment to leveraging this opportunity to further strengthen knowledge sharing with academic and clinical partners in Türkiye and to contribute to international collaborations in this field.

ISOPT is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the global production and sharing of scientific knowledge regarding cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment approaches for early-stage diseases. The organization aims to provide international stakeholders with up-to-date, evidence-based information in areas such as risk assessment, preventive interventions, screening strategies, and treatment de-escalation through free virtual conferences and digital content.

Who is Prof. Dr. Mutlu Hayran?
He earned his Medical Doctorate and the title of Specialist in Cancer Epidemiology from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Public Health in the United States (U.S.). He has also participated in courses on clinical research methods, epidemiology, biostatistics, and cancer control organized by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and the universities of Michigan in the U.S. and Pavia in Italy. He worked as a senior researcher in the Cancer Control and Prevention Unit at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) for two years. He served as an instructor in various national and international certification programs. Between 2012 and 2014, he participated in community-based tobacco control field studies conducted in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, the Bloomberg Institute, and the World Health Organization. Prof. Dr. Kadir Mutlu Hayran, who has been a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) since 2012, currently serves as the Head of the Department of Preventive Oncology at the Hacettepe University Cancer Institute, Coordinator of the Research Technical Support Unit at the Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, and a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board and the Subcommittee on Preventive Oncology of the Turkish Ministry of Health.
