TÜBA and EMAN to Address Global Governance on the 80th Anniversary of the UN

The Conference on “Un/Governance in the Mediterranean Region and the Global System”, jointly organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) International Relations Working Group and the Euro-Mediterranean Academic Network (EMAN), will be held on 1–2 November 2025 at Nişantaşı University in Istanbul.

Organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), the conference will focus on current challenges related to un/governance in both the global system and the Mediterranean region. Aiming to provide a comprehensive framework for scholars, policymakers, and the public, the event will serve as a platform for discussing diverse practices and perspectives on a wide range of issues. Topics will include governance in health and pandemics, the management of human security and human rights, governance in the energy sector, and the security of supply chains.

The conference will open with speeches by TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker; TÜBA Full Member, President of EMAN as well as the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) Prof. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev; and TÜBA Full Member and Rector of Nişantaşı University Prof. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu. Structured in four sessions, the program will begin with a general session featuring scholars and expert representatives from relevant institutions and organizations who will examine the interrelations between governance and key themes such as science diplomacy, human rights, culture, coexistence, security, and sustainability in Türkiye and around the world.

The sessions will be moderated by TÜBA Full Members Prof. Ali Balcı and Prof. Şener Aktürk along with Prof. Mehmet Akif Kireçci, Assoc. Prof. Mürsel Doğrul, and Asst. Prof. Musab Talha Akpınar.
