The President of the AASSA SHARE Committee, TÜBA Member Prof. Dr. Aydın

TÜBA Full Member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın has been appointed Chair of the SHARE (Science, Health, Agriculture, Risk, Environment) Communication Special Committee at the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA).

It was announced in a statement signed by TÜBA Full Member and AASSA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Nuri Yurdusev that Prof. Aydın will serve as Chair of the Committee until the end of 2027. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın stated that the committee aims to strengthen communication regarding research conducted in the fields of science, health, agriculture, risk, and the environment, and to support inter-academy collaboration in these areas. He also noted that efforts will continue to develop TÜBA’s activities related to science diplomacy and academic collaborations in the Asian region within the framework of AASSA.

AASSA is a regional, non-profit umbrella organization that brings together national science academies and scientific communities in the Asia-Australasia region. It was established in 2012 through the merger of two previously existing regional structures. Its objective is to ensure that science and technology make a stronger contribution to sustainable development, social welfare, and policy-making processes in the region’s countries. AASSA works to enhance cooperation among member academies, develop joint scientific projects, support science diplomacy, and generate views and recommendations on science policies at the regional level. Key priority areas include sustainable development, climate change, health, science education, and the support of women in science. It also aims to strengthen the scientific capacity and visibility of the Asia-Pacific region in relation to global science networks.

Who is Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın?
He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Selçuk University in 1984, completed his master’s degree at the same university, and earned his Ph.D. from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom in 1993. Prof. Dr. Aydın, who began his academic career at Selçuk University and has continued his work at Necmettin Erbakan University since 2011, possesses extensive expertise in the fields of Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering. In addition to his academic work, he has assumed responsibilities in university administration, serving in administrative roles such as Vice Rector, Founding Dean, and Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences. As a member of the TÜBA Council, the TÜBİTAK Ethics Committees, and various commissions on international platforms, Prof. Dr. Aydın has played a key role in shaping scientific policies. He continues to contribute to the literature through numerous national and international projects (including DAAD and TÜBİTAK-Germany joint initiatives) focused on sustainable water management, environmental technologies, and pollution control.
