The 14th ALLEA General Assembly Meeting Held in Berlin-Germany
The 14th ALLEA (All European Academies) General Assembly meeting was held in Berlin between 29-30 April 2013. TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Academy Council Member Prof. Dr. Tayfun Özçelik and Principal Member Prof. Dr. Taner Demirer participated in the meetings which were hosted by the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
Within the context of the ALLEA General Assembly meeting, a scientific symposium entitled“Management of Large Data Corpora” was held on 29 April 2013 and the General Assembly meeting was held on 30 April 2013 with the participation of the representatives of ALLEA member academies. ALLEA President Prof.Dr.Günter Stock, The German Federal Minister of Education and Research Prof. Dr. Johanna Wanka and European Commission, Deputy Director Generalfor Communications Networks, Content and Technology Dr. Zoran Stancic gave opening speechs at the Symposium.
The Chair of the ALLEA Working Group E-Humanities and Director of the Digital Repository Of Ireland Dr. Sandra Collins chaired the Symposium. The symposium aimed to highlight the challenges and opportunities that the rapid progress in data digitisation creates for scientists and researchers, including questions of storage, accessibility and long-term preservation of research data, pan-European interoperability and large-scale European data infrastructures, as well as reliable digital archives and repositories. International experts from various European countries and different institutional backgrounds presented examples of best practice and addressed the opportunities and challenges that arise when dealing with these issues. At the General Assembly meeting, subjects on the agenda were discussed and resolutions were taken.
