Science Diplomacy in Mongolia by President Şeker
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker visited the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in Mongolia to determine the areas of mutual negotiations and cooperation.
Starting his speech by giving information about TÜBA, President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker reminded that the first contact with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences started in 2004. Expressing that some events were held in the 50th anniversary of Mongolia-Turkey relations, Prof. Dr. Şeker: “We work together with the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in many umbrella organizations. In this context, we act together with the Association of Asian Academies and the World Association of Academies, we are together.” said.
Stating that Turkey has an increasing momentum in the field of science and technology every year, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Prof. Dr. Duger Regdel said that they work with TÜBA in umbrella organizations, but a closer cooperation is needed. Regdel : “We carried out projects with TIKA in 2000. We carry out studies in the field of geophysics with Istanbul Technical University (ITU) for space research. Currently, our relations with Turkey are at this level. We desire a more intense relationship and cooperation. Your visit will greatly contribute to the academic research of the two countries. We're watching what you're doing closely, and we want to capitalize on your experience.” said.
We are determined to improve relations between the two countries.
Mongolia State University (MUIS) Rector Prof. Dr. Ochirkhuyag Bayanjargal in his office visited by TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker and He stated that academies have important duties in terms of science diplomacy. Expressing that they believe that MUIS, as the most rooted national university of Mongolia, should undertake important tasks in this sense, Prof. Dr. Şeker said that such deep-rooted universities should give direction to institutions, politics and society.
Expressing that they are determined to develop the strong ties of MUIS with Turkey, MUIS Rector Prof. Dr. Ochirkhuyag Bayanjargal expressed his satisfaction with the student admission offer. Rector Bayanjargal said, “MUIS is Mongolia's first university and the most successful higher education institution. We attach great importance to international studies, cooperation and interaction with foreign cultures. Currently, we have 20 thousand students and 1,300 academic staff. 54% of our academic staff have a PhD. This is an important number. We are the only center of Turkology in Mongolia. We love Turkey very much and expect contributions from institutions especially to our work in Turkey. We are very happy to host our TÜBA President here and we believe that we should cooperate in more areas. We need to improve our relations with both universities and umbrella organizations.”
TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, Director of İzmir Katip Çelebi University (İKÇÜ) Turkic Studies Application and Research Center and Social Sciences Institute, Prof. Dr. Şaban Doğan attended the "Friendship Medal" award ceremony held for in the Mongolian Assembly and the protocol signing ceremony between İKÇÜ and Mongolia Science and Technology University held at Mongolia Science and Technology University.
