Dress Norm and Clothing of the Ottoman İlmiye Class Symposium

The Dress Norm and Clothing Symposium of the Ottoman İlmiye Class, prepared by TÜBA, was hosted by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSU).

The symposium was brought to life at the MSGSÜ Sedad Hakkı Eldem Auditorium with the inspiration of the work titled Dress Norm and Clothes of the Ottoman İlmiye Class, which was published and offered for sale as part of the TÜBA Science and Think series. It was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Ministry of National Education, General Directorate of Lifelong Learning and the Turkish Patent Institute. With the help of the Ministry of National Education General Directorate of Lifelong Learning and the Izmir Maturation Institute, 5 special outfits were prepared for the Symposium, and miniatures specially prepared by her students under the guidance of Gülçin Anmaç were presented to the attention of the participants under the name of "Ottoman İlmiye Class Dress, Turban and Miniature Exhibition".

President Şeker started his speech by expressing that it is important to be together with a scientific activity under a title that is included in the history of science, ilmiye class and cultural inventory but has not been studied much. He said that despite the wishes of Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, who was the father of the idea of the symposium, and Ms. Emine Erdoğan, she could not attend due to their programs, but she brought their greetings.

During the 2 days of the symposium, in 5 sessions in total, 24 scientists discussed all the details of the Ottoman ilmiye class's clothing. Emphasizing that the symposium will examine how the Ottoman İlmiye class outfits were designed and what points were emphasized, Şeker said, “The history of science is a topic that all academies give importance to in the world. Cultural values, folklore of countries, cultural inventory are among the topics carefully examined by academies. We held a very important symposium. The author of our book with the same name, I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to Assoc. Dr. Murat Çelik for working diligently on his work and never giving up.” said.
