Associate Prof. Dr. Tuncay Zorlu was in Rabi Madrasah for TÜBA-Academy Conference
Associate Prof. Dr. Tuncay Zorlu made a presentation in TÜBA-Rabi Madrasah titled “Role of Süleymaniye Madrasahs in Science and Culture History” within the frame of TÜBA-Academy Conferences held in Istanbul.
Associate Prof. Dr. Tuncay Zorlu, Instructor of Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences defined in the conference he gave on May 26 that the Madrasah had the role of raising the science class, gaining a common culture to the society and ensuring educational equality in Ottoman educational system. Associate Prof. Dr. Zorlu, who remarked that it was an important instrument to bring identity to the conquered places and to fortify the religional view of the state as a part of Ottoman policy of conquest also draw attention to the point that the madrasah was also an institution which raised Shaykh al-islam, the head of religious authority and science, kadi and kadi’asker in law and administrative fields and candidates of chief physician in the field of medicine and discussed the relation of educational units in Suleymaniye Social complex ( Mosque, Darulkurra, infant’s school, Evvel, Sani, Salis, Rabi Madrasahs, Madrasah of Medicine, Hospital, Darulhadis)with each other within the context of social complex and the anture of this relationships.
With the conference, the role of Suleymaniye Madrasahs, the highest madrasah of Ottoman period, in the educational, cultural and political life of Ottoman with the professor, physician, kadi, judge and Shaykh al-islam candidates raised were put forth with examples.
The audience comprising of President of TÜBA Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Academy Council Members, academicians, students and instructor posed their questions to Associate Prof. Dr. Tuncay Zorlu after the conference.
