TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, TÜBA Council Member Prof. Muzaffer Şeker attended the International Symposium on “Knowledge Production and Science Policies in Türkiye” organized by High Institution of Ataturk Culture, Language and History (AKDTYK) Ataturk Research Center (ATAM) at Ahi Evran University.
TÜBA President Prof. Acar: “Quality in the field of education should increase”
Prof. Acar made assessments on the education system He said that growth has been achieved in the field of science in quantitative terms in Türkiye. Saying that the increase in quality in the field of education is an indisputable fact, Prof. Acar voiced that the innovations made in the system will get much better results.
Prof. Acar talked about foreign language education as follows: “Science production can not be done by teaching in a foreign language. The most effective scientific knowledge is learned in the native language. But we are in a race to give education in foreign language. If Türkiye has a claim of being a civilization, it is essential that the Turkish must be language of education and science. Otherwise, you will serve foreign countries by training foreign languages. Is it worth sacrificing knowledge production to teach a foreign language? Important people who grew up in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire learned language without foreign language education.”
ATAM President Prof. Mehmet Ali Beyhan, Ahi Evran University Rector Prof. Vatan Karakaya also spoke in the symposium. 51 papers were presented at the symposium.
