Call for Side Event Proposals at the World Science Forum Has Begun
A call for proposals has begun for side events to be held as part of the World Science Forum (WSF), organized under the auspices of the Turkish Presidency, hosted by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), and in collaboration with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). Scientific organizations can contribute to WSF2027 by proposing side events that explore the role of science in addressing global crises and strengthen dialogue among different disciplines and communities. WSF2027 aims to address the role of scientific knowledge in solving global crises from different perspectives and to create new areas of dialogue between the scientific community and different segments of society. With this call for side events, scientific organizations from different countries are expected to submit original event proposals related to the Forum's main theme.
Preparations are underway for WSF2027, which will be held in Istanbul from March 17–20, 2027, hosted by TÜBA. Applications are now being accepted for proposals regarding side events to be held as part of the Forum, which will take place under the theme “Science in Times of Global Crises: Transcending Boundaries in a Fragmented World”
It is anticipated that the proposed side events will focus on topics such as the role of science in overcoming global crises, fostering dialogue among diverse groups, and building common ground in an increasingly fragmented world. The call for proposals states that it is open to proposals that explore different assumptions, bring together different disciplines and communities, and demonstrate how science can make meaningful contributions to the challenges shaping our shared future.
WSF2027 to Be Held in Istanbul
WSF2027, which will bring together leading international organizations in the scientific community, will take place in Istanbul from March 17–20, 2027. The forum is organized in collaboration with TÜBA, as well as UNESCO, the International Science Council (ISC), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), and TWAS. TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker is among the co-chairs of the WSF2027 Executive Committee.
The WSF2027 program will address topics such as building resilient futures in the face of global crises, sustainability transitions, ethics and responsibility in science, science diplomacy, and strengthening the public interest in science and technology. At a time when global crises are becoming increasingly complex and divisions between countries and societies are deepening, it will open up a discussion at the international level on science’s role as a force that transcends boundaries and fosters common solutions.
