Higher Education Institutions in Türkiye: An Analysis in the Light of Numerical Data
Although it has been observed that the ratio of male and female academicians in higher education institutions in Türkiye has approached numerical equality in recent years, it is known that there is no hierarchical equality. At this point, the aim of the research is to analyze the appearance of gender in higher education institutions in Türkiye in the light of numerical data. In the study, secondary data analysis method was used within the scope of cross-sectional research, Higher Education Information Management System 2022 data and University Ranking by Academic Performance scores were used as data sources. Log-linear modeling was used together with descriptive analyzes for the analysis of the data. Although the findings show that there is a relative balance between the number of male and female academicians in total, in the final analysis, it has revealed that there is a difference between the number of male academicians and the number of female academicians, especially in associate professor and professor positions. In addition, according to the K-Nearest Neighbors method, it was observed that the increase in the number of female academicians in state universities had a positive effect on academic achievement. All these data show that the low rate of women in the Turkish higher education system not only affects women’s participation in public life, but also affects the academic success of universities.
