Prioritization of Research Topics and Strategic Alignment Analysis
Prioritization of Research Topics and Strategic Alignment Analysis
This chapter provides a strategic alignment analysis of research topics in the social sciences in Turkey by examining their relationship with national priorities and global agendas. It compares the thematic distribution of social science publications, projects and postgraduate theses with the goals and priorities set out in national development plans, strategy papers, sectoral policy documents and programme texts. Using text mining, topic modelling and content analysis techniques, it maps the main themes in the research agenda and identifies areas where there is strong alignment with national objectives as well as domains in which significant gaps or mismatches persist. The chapter further discusses the extent to which existing research concentrations in the social sciences intersect with long-term development goals, socio-economic vulnerability fields and global debate axes, such as sustainable development, digital transformation, demographic change and gender equality. Building on these findings, it proposes future thematic priority areas, interdisciplinary focal points and topics that require stronger interaction between policymakers and the research community. In doing so, the chapter offers a concrete framework for the strategic governance of the research agenda in the social sciences.
