Changes in Research Qualities Over Time In the Social and Cultural Field
This chapter examines the quantitative and qualitative transformation of research in the social and cultural fields in Turkey over time. It is based on bibliometric and textual analyses of a large corpus of Turkey-affiliated publications, including journal articles, conference papers, books/book chapters and postgraduate theses. By analysing trends in publication volume, shifts in language of publication, orientation towards national and international journals, patterns of collaboration, funding information and institutional distribution, the chapter maps the long-term evolution of the research ecosystem in social and cultural domains. Cluster and burst analyses are employed to identify prominent topics, periods of thematic concentration and decline, thereby tracing the thematic evolution of the social science research agenda in Türkiye. While making visible the dynamics of quantitative growth, the chapter also discusses qualitative dimensions such as methodological diversity, interdisciplinarity, conceptual depth and international impact, and offers a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and vulnerabilities of knowledge production in social and cultural fields.
