Azerbaijan and Türkiye in World Politics
“Azerbaijan and Türkiye in World Politics” comprehensively examines the partnership between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, exploring its historical roots, cultural depth, and geopolitical implications. For various reasons, it is of great significance both in terms of its timing and its importance. First, it challenges the traditional view that Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations are driven solely by emotional nationalism. Instead, the authors argue that this axis represents a model of “bottom-up regionalism” formed by non-hegemonic powers that design new rules, corridors, and identities aligned with their strategic priorities, independent of global superpowers. Second, the book explains how cultural heritage and linguistic affinity create “symbolic capital” and how this is transformed into “concrete” geopolitical assets such as energy security and military cooperation. Third, the book situates the South Caucasus within the broader context of global multipolarity. It analyzes how the Türkiye-Azerbaijan alliance, while spearheading the institutionalization of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), navigates the complex triangle comprising Russia, Iran, and the West. The book offers a comprehensive perspective on how these two countries not only survive in a chaotic world order but also actively shape it. The study offers a multidisciplinary perspective, spanning from neoclassical realism and constructivism to psychosemantics and digital diplomacy, to understand how the two countries have reshaped the Eurasian map by synthesizing their shared histories with modern state-building.
