“Basic Sciences and Requirements of Academic Life” Summer School from TÜBA to the Turkish World

TÜBA has organized the Summer School on “Basic Sciences and Requirements of Academic Life” will be held in Istanbul on 26-30 September 2022 with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Union of Turkish World National Academies of Sciences (TDUBAB).

TÜBA organized the summer school titled “International Law Diplomacy and Cooperation” Summer first in 2017 and was held for three consecutive years. The Summer School organized by TÜBA had to take a break for two years due to the global pandemic. TÜBA decided to begin the summer school activity in 2022 with the title of "Basic Sciences and the Necessities of Academic Life". After the easing of the course of the epidemic, TÜBA will start to take applications for the 2022 Summer School with the theme of "Basic Sciences and Requirements of Academic Life". The Summer School will be held at TÜBA's "Rabi Madrasa" in Istanbul, Süleymaniye, which was built by Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. Graduate and doctorate students under 35 years of age from Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Mongolia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tatarstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Jordan. Academicians carrying out post-doctoral studies can apply for the summer school.

Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, President of TÜBA reminded that 2022 was declared as the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD2022), considering that more basic science is needed to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. He said; “with this decision, UN members, UN institutions and other global, regional and sub-regional organizations as well as academia, non-governmental, international and national non-governmental organizations aim to emphasize the importance of basic sciences for sustainable development and to raise awareness on this issue. In this context, as TÜBA, we have changed topic of the Summer School as basic sciences. During the Summer School, thematic courses on basic sciences in different disciplines will be supported by creative publications, research techniques, doubt in science, critical approaches, honesty in academia and academic ethics, which are important topics in the world of science and academia”.

Full scholarship for 30 participants
Prof. Şeker “With this theme, we would like to draw attention to the importance of basic sciences among Turkish states and peoples at the Summer School. The curriculum will focus on modern engineering and medical education, as well as the role of basic sciences in research. At the same time, many topics such as the difficulties encountered in basic science education and basic science education in the world, developing countries and Turkey are among the topics to be covered within the program. The program, which will continue for five days, will also include social activities. In the Summer School, where 30 participants will attend with full scholarships, all of the courses to be given by TÜBA members and scientists who are experts in their fields will be in English.”
