TÜBA 55. General Assembly was Held

The 55th TÜBA General Assembly was held on June 29, 2019 in Ankara with the participation of Academy members. As a result of voting in the General Assembly; Prof. Arif Hepbaşlı was elected as a Principal Member of the Academy.

The General Assembly held in The Green Park Ankara started with the speech of TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker. Expressing that he is glad to be deemed worthy of the task by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prof. Şeker said that “We were very happy that the will of the Academy was realized, this issue was important. Because there was an election that was made and a will that emerged as a result of that election. Mr. President also expressed his will on this issue. Hopefully we will try to be worthy of the task. In addition, we will endeavor to represent the scientists of our country as institutional, and to work with national and international cooperation including all scientists.”

Following the speech of Prof. Şeker, Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar, TÜBA Former President and Council Member, gave information about the works carried out since the 54th General Assembly.

In addition, TÜBA Principal Member Prof. Feridun Emecen and TÜBA Honorary Member TÜBA Prof. Emin Kansu gave a lecture. After the lectures, Ilnur Inam, Head of Department from the General Directorate of R & D Incentives in Ministry of Science and Technology and Experts Eda Ünal and Mesut Koçak made a presentation to the members of the Academy on “Antarctic Scientific Research and Science Base Project”.

Who is Prof. Arif Hepbaşlı?
Arif Hepbaşlı has dealt with energy-related issues for 36 years, of which 10 years were spent working in various Turkish industries while the remainder has been spent teaching at different universities since 1996. He aims at attaining Industry (I), Profession Institutions (P) and University (U), namely Balanced IPU (nowadays RIC) simultaneously. His research has been involved with energy, exergy, exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental analyses and assessments of energy-related systems, energy/exergy efficiency and management, exergizing sustainable cities, exergy-based performance assessment of buildings, ground-source heat pumps, utilization and potential of renewable energy sources and sustainable energy technologies. Dr. Hepbasli is also a Certified Industrial Energy Manager in Turkey while he is author and co-author of over 660 papers (over 300 SCI-based papers) with academic footprints of 51, 56 and 69, and citations of 8506, 11109 and 15759 (as of August 6, 2019) on the Web of Science (WOS), Scopus and Google Scholar basis, respectively, on a national and international basis as well as several national and international books and book chapters. He has served as a consultant for the industry in cases involving his research area and is also a member in the International Advisory Board of various prestigious energy-related journals and an Associate Editor of Journal of Energy Engineering (ASCE) while also serving many energy journals and industrial projects as a reviewer. Dr. Hepbasli was elected a Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) Principal Member in the 55th biannual meeting on June 29, 2019 while he has been a member of Energy Working Group at TUBA since February 16, 2017.
