TÜBA - "3rd International Law, Diplomacy, and Cooperation” Summer School Was Held

The Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (TDUBAB) Summer School on International Law, Diplomacy and Cooperation was held in TÜBA Rabi Medrese, which is located in Suleymaniye Complex in Istanbul between July 22-26, 2019 with the hosting of TÜBA.

Totally 27 young scientist from 11 countries, 5 young scientists from Azerbaijan, 3 young scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mongolia, Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, 2 young scientists from Uzbekistan and Turkey, and 1 young scientist from Pakistan, Montenegro and Jordan, participated the 5-day program that was supported by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker said “We are delighted to be hold the third of Summer School and with the interest that it receives.”
Saying that TÜBA, as one of the most active and valuable members of the world’s academies of science, has the vision of giving direction to the Turkey’s science policies, Prof. Şeker stressed that the Union of National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic World (TDUBAB) was established in 2015 on the initiative of the International Turkic Academy in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers of Education on 24 November 2014 in Baku.

Prof. Şeker said that TÜBA Summer School is is organized for the third time in total and for the second time in Istanbul. He continued his words as “We organized our first Summer School in Istanbul in 2017 and hosted 27 scientists from 10 countries from China-Uyghur Region to Kosovo in a five-day program in this historic atmosphere. In 2018, the second program was held in Kastamonu, which was declared as the Capital of Culture of the Turkish World. Here, we hosted 29 young scientists from 13 countries from Pakistan to Albania. We are glad to organize the third summer school in Rabi Madrasah which is located in Suleymaniye and was built in 16th century by Mimar Sinan.

The school was started with the lecture given by TÜBA Principal Member and METU Department of International Relations Faculty Member Prof. Ahmet Yurdusev titled as “Diplomacy: Basic Concepts and Historical Development” and continued with the lecture given by Bilkent University Department of International Relations Faculty Member Prof. Pınar Bilgin.

After the opening session, Prof. Şeker and TÜBA Council Member Prof. Ahmet Cevat Acar visited Istanbul University Rector Prof. Mahmut Ak.

The other lectures were “History of Economic Cooperation: A Global Perspective” by TÜBA Associate Member and Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Rector Prof. Mehmet Bulut; “International Economic Cooperation and Regional Integration” by TÜBA Associate Member and Ibn Haldun University Faculty Member Prof. Ekrem Tatoğlu; “Forms of Diplomatic Cooperation” by METU Faculty Member Prof. Oktay F. Tanrısever; “Turkish Foreign Policy and Grand Strategy” by TÜBA-GEBİP Member and Koç University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Şener Aktürk; “International Organizations and International Cooperation” by TÜBA Principal Member and Koç University Faculty Member Prof. Ziya Öniş; “International Law: Basic Concepts and Historical Development” by Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty Member Prof. Yücel Acar; “Science Diplomacy and International Cooperation in Higher Education” by Higher Education Council Member Prof. Zeliha Koçak Tufan, and “Cultural Diplomacy and Civil Society Associations” by Maarıif Foundation President and Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty Member Prof. Birol Akgün.

Following the outcome and evaluation meeting, the participants took their certificates at the end of the program.
